Hirimaradhoo harbour construction project likely to commence in June: Minister

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that it should be possible to commence the harbour construction project in Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo in June 2013.

In an interview to Sun Online today, Dr Muizzu said that work is ongoing to ensure that the project starts in June, and that this had been informed to the Hirimaradhoo Council as well.

He said that it was not possible yet to indicate a start date for the project.

A letter sent by the Housing Ministry to the Hirimaradhoo Council on 11 April stated that work is ongoing regarding the construction of Hirimaradhoo harbour, and that an announcement would be made on the following day regarding conducting an Environment Impact Survey.

A series of protests have taken place in Hirimaradhoo regarding the lack of a proper harbour in the island, wherein the protesters hijacked the Council Office.
