Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Council Member Maaz Saleem has said that there is no reason for Umar Naseer to apologize, but it is rather the party’s presidential candidate Abdulla Yameen who should apologize "for rigging the vote".
Maaz Saleem, who was also Umar’s campaign manager for the PPM presidential primary, said that the elections committee approved by the PPM congress came from within the “Endherimaage post”.
Saleem accused Yameen of having influence over the committee and said that it was in his complete control. He said that the entire election was conducted under the instructions of Abdulla Yameen.
Saleem said that Umar is persistent of his accusation that the primary election was rigged, and demanded Yameen to apologize to the general members of the party for the slight that he has committed.
“Everything regarding the election was conducted according Abdulla Yameen’s instructions. Umar continues to say that wrongs had occurred during the election. Abdulla Yameen has to apologize to the general members, for rigging the vote,” Maaz Saleem said.
The deadline granted to Umar Naseer by PPM to apologize for holding a party event against the fundamental regulations of the party, and making false statements, ends today.
Yameen had recently stated that the statements made by Umar Naseer during the event have no basis and are completely false.
