Indian Ambassador to the Maldives Mr Rajeev Shahare has said that the Indian government would assist the Maldivian government in every way possible, in making this year’s presidential election free and fair.
The Foreign Ministry said that Mr Rajeev Shahare paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdul Samad Abdullah today. During the meeting, Dr Abdul Samad briefed Mr Rajeev Shahare on the current political situation and the upcoming election.
They discussed the importance of dialogue between senior officials of the two countries on ways to overcome the challenges faced by Maldivians in obtaining Indian visa. They also talked about further strengthening the historic bilateral ties.
The Indian High Commission said that the newly-appointed Ambassador, Mr Rajeev Shahare arrived in the Maldives last Thursday.
His predecessor Mr D M Mulay completed his tenure as Ambassador and departed from the Maldives on 24 March 2013.
