Three cases have been submitted to the Supreme Court and High Court requesting for a “mandamus” order to the Police to release the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.
Judge Abdulla’s lawyer Maumoon Hameed said today that these cases have been submitted because it is the responsibility of the Police to implement the orders issued by the courts. He also said that a request has been made to order the Police to implement the order issued on 17 January to release Judge Abdulla.
“We have requested that these three orders be issued to the Police. The request for a mandamus order is made to demand that they carry out the responsibilities as required by the law,” Maumoon said.
In the letter sent to Supreme Court by Maumoon, he has indicated that the military had dismissed the High Court order issued on 17 January to release Judge Abdulla.
The letter also says that the military obstructs allowing Judge Abdulla to exercise his rights as guaranteed by the Constitution, and that they dismissed Criminal Court’s order to produce Judge Abdulla for the Habeas Corpus case on 23 January as well. As a result, a request was made to order to military to implement the aforementioned order.
