The police have announced that they are searching for three additional men involved in damaging and turning over a van which belongs to Red Wave shop owned by Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem during the protest in Male’ on 5 March, sparked by the arrest of former President Mohamed Nasheed under an order by Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court.
The video posted by the police show a group of people stopping a van at the intersection of Majeedee Magu and Alikilegefaanu Magu, causing damage to the van, forcing the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle, and pushing it to turn it over. The police have noted three people involved in this act.
On 5 March, protesters of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) caused serious damage to the van after it was turned over. They broke the windows and threw the goods that were being carried by the van on the streets, and even distributed some goods among themselves.
The police have urged the public to come forward with any information on the three people, and to contact Maldives Police Service Criminal Investigation Department at 9631696 or Maldives Police Service Hotline at 3322111 as soon as possible.
The police said that due protection will be provided to people who provide information on the suspects, and thanked the public for their support in similar instances in the past.
