Interim Vice President of PPM Umar Naseer has been released following inquiries by the Police regarding his speech made at the protest last Monday night.
Speaking to reporters outside the Police Office, Umar said that he was questioned in relation to turning Monday night’s protest into an activity, where he asked 2000 volunteers to climb ladders and jump off walls at locations as instructed by him.
Umar said that he responded by indicating that he wanted to oblige with the questions very much, however cannot do so before they told him the numbers assigned to the two cases regarding President Mohamed Nasheed submitted by him.
“I had submitted a case about three years ago, following the mention in an Indian newspaper that President Nasheed drank Shula Shiraz. No response was received even after I repeatedly submitted this case three times. So first they should tell me the number of that case. I will comply with their questions as soon as they tell me that,” Umar said.
He also said that he asked for the number assigned to the case regarding speeches made by President Nasheed advocating the use of drugs in the country.
Umar said that the Police released him when he refused to talk about the ladder incident before they told him the numbers assigned to those two cases.
