Dr Hassan has requested the Police to submit inquiries regarding the book published by Gaumee Party titled ‘Anti-Islamic Conspiracies of President Nasheed’ in writing to Gaumee Party. Dr Hassan was summoned to Shaheed Hussein Adam Building at 1.30pm today for questioning regarding this book.
The book accuses President Nasheed’s regime of carrying out anti-religious activities in the country. Subsequent to inquiries by the Police, Dr Hassan agreed that the book was published by Gaumee Party.
Speaking to reporters outside Shaheed Hussein Adam Building today, Dr Hassan said that information regarding the authors and funding of the book, as inquired by the Police, will be accorded to them once they submit their request in writing to Gaumee Party.
He said that Gaumee Party is “not operated by one individual [the Party President], but by a Council which acts in accordance with the Party regulations”.
Dr Hassan said that the Police indicated that two complaints have been received regarding the book, one from Foreign Minister Ahmed Naseem and another by a private individual. He did not reveal the name of the private individual.
In the case submitted by Naseem to Police Commissioner Ahmed Faseeh, he had said that the book contains false information which has incited public hatred towards him.
Interim Vice President of PPM Umar Naseer was also summoned to the Police this morning.
