Over 4,000 cases distributed as donation of canned tuna kicks off

Over 4,000 canned tuna cases were issued on Saturday as the distribution of canned tuna for the upcoming month of Ramadan kicked off in the greater Male’ area.

According to the Local Government Ministry, distribution centers in the capital issued 4,196 cases of canned tuna between 08:30 pm and 11:00 pm on Saturday.

The highest number of cases were issued from the Galolhu Stadium, with 783 cases.

The government has announced that cases of 48 cans of tuna will be distributed to 118,773 households this year; 61,755 households in Male’, and 56,918 in the atolls.

The distribution of canned tuna cases in the greater Male’ area is currently being carried out between 08:30 pm and 11:00 pm, with 300 tokens available via the Roadha Hadhiya portal from each center per day.

15 distribution centers have been set up in Male’; eight in Male’ City, six in Hulhumale’ and one in Vilimale’.

Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said that the transport of tuna cases to the atolls will wrap up by the end of this week.

The market rate for a case of Felivaru canned tuna is MVR 760, meaning the government is distributing MVR 90.4 million worth of tuna cases this year.
