Asif added that the hospital introduced a number of services over the last two years.
“We have begun MRI services over here, and the services of a neurologist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, as part of sub-specialty services. We have also introduced speech therapy, occupational therapy, and now, chemotherapy,” he said.
Chemo services were previously available solely from the capital Male’. In 2020, the Lh. Atoll Hospital became the first healthcare facility outside Male’ to provide chemo services.
The introduction of chemo services in Ungoofaaru comes amid efforts by the government to expand cancer diagnostic services and treatment nationwide.
