Guitarist Ahmed Shaheed (Shahyd), known as Shahyd Legacy, has announced his departure from the band 2ofus, citing a lack of financial transparency, professional respect, and creative alignment.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Shahyd said the decision was “difficult but necessary,” and that fans and supporters deserved to know the reasons behind his exit.
“A fundamental lack of financial transparency and consistent payment practices created an unsustainable environment,” he wrote.
“There was no artistic or professional growth, and it became clear that respect must go both ways, something that was increasingly lacking.”
Shahyd said the musical direction no longer aligned with his style or creative identity, and described the band’s structure as feeling “more like a one-man show rather than a collaborative band effort.”
He also expressed disappointment that his 25 years of experience in music were not acknowledged or respected during his time with the band.
Despite the issues, Shahyd said he remains proud of the band’s achievement at India’s Battle of the Bands International, where 2ofus won second runner-up, one of the most notable successes in Maldivian live music history.
“I worked extremely hard for that achievement, and I am proud of the award we earned together,” he said.
“I wish the remaining members nothing but the best in their future endeavors. As for me, I move forward with clarity, self-respect, and renewed focus on music that truly represents who I am as an artist.”
Shahyd’s departure follows that of former vocalist Mohamed Nasooh, who left the band last year without publicly stating a reason.
At the time of their Battle of the Bands win, 2ofus had five members.
