President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency, formalizing the country’s independent body mandated to uphold fair play and integrity in sport.

According to an announcement issued by the President’s Office on Thursday evening, the agency has been created under Article 116(a) of the Constitution. Its formation fulfills a requirement introduced under the First Amendment to the Sports Act, which President Muizzu ratified on May 19, 2025.

The agency will be administratively attached to the Ministry of Sports, while operating under an independent board responsible for implementing anti‑doping policies across the sporting sector.

The President’s Office said official correspondence to the Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency should be addressed using the number 1138.

Under the Sports Act, the Maldives must maintain an independent anti‑doping body that functions in line with the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport and the World Anti‑Doping Code. The Act also stipulates that the agency’s board must be constituted by the Minister of Sports, using available national resources and in accordance with domestic laws and international best practices.
