MDP decides to obstruct presidential address

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group has decided to obstruct the delivery of the presidential address by President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik at this year’s inaugural session of the parliament tomorrow.

MDP Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader, Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed said that the party’s parliamentary group decided today to protest against the presidential address ‘for various reasons’.

He said that it was not possible to give more details just yet, but more on MDP parliamentary group’s activities against the presidential address will be revealed at an MDP meeting tonight.

The inaugural session of the parliament last year was held amidst protests and turmoil.

The inaugural session on 1 March 2012 was obstructed by MDP parliamentary group, but President Waheed successfully delivered the presidential address on 19 March 2012 despite the protests by MDP.
