The young man who suffered severe injuries to his skull following an accident that took place in Addu Link Road last night, has died in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) tonight. This news was confirmed to Sun by the man’s family.
The man, who sustained severe head injuries and a number of fractured bones, is identified as Mohamed Shifaz of Seenu Feydhoo Zumaradhuge, 22 years of age. Shifaz’s sister Fathimath Didi told Sun that her brother died around 8:30pm tonight while being treated in the IGMH Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She declined to provide more details.
With the assistance of doctors and nurses from the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, Shifaz was boarded on a Maldivian flight bound from Gan Addu to Male’ around 13:15 today. Hithadhoo Regional Hospital revealed that the flight was delayed by a hour due to the young man's severe condition. He was taken to IGMH at approximately 17:00.
Police say that the accident took place as a bus and motor cycle were travelling from Maradhoo to Hithadhoo, the motor cycle, after seeing a police vehicle check point up ahead, took a sharp turn and turned back to Maradhoo, suddenly crashing into the oncoming bus.
