Young man hit by a bus and in serious condition, brought to Male

A young man involved in a dangerous accident that took place in Addu City last night has been brought to Male’. The man, who sustained severe head and other injuries, is now being treated in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The man involved in the accident has been identified as Mohamed Shifaz of Seenu Feydhoo Zumaradhuge. Along with the assistance of doctors and nurses from the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, the man was boarded on a Maldivian bound from Gan Addu to Male’ around 13:15 today. He was taken to IGMH at approximately 17:00. Hithadhoo Regional Hospital revealed that the flight was delayed by a hour due to the young man's severe condition.

Ali Moosa, speaking from Hithadhoo Regional Hospital said that Shifaz’s condition was very frail and that his injuries include a fractured skull and bone fractures on other areas of his body. Ali Moosa said that Shifaz has been unconscious since the time of the accident.

Shifaz hit a bus commissioned to carry staff from Shangri-La Villingili in Addu. The motor cycle ridden by Shifaz was broken into pieces due to the impact.

Police said that the motor cycle Shifaz was riding was stolen from a work shop, and that it was taken to the workshop to fix it's lock. They also said that they received a report regarding the particular stolen motor cycle around 12:05 last night. The accident happened around 22:20.

Police say that the accident took place as a bus and motor cycle were travelling from Maradhoo to Hithadhoo, the motor cycle took a sudden turn and turned back to Maradhoo after seeing a police checkpoint up ahead and suddenly, crashed into the bus.
