Two people have been arrested, accused of setting fire to a police vehicle on 17th of this month.
In a video interview released tonight, Head of the Police Serious and Organized Crime Department, Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Daud said that two people of age 30 and 28 were arrested in relation the crime.
Daud said that the two people, in a deliberate attempt to confuse the sequence of events, are continuing to lie to investigation and that both people have existing criminal records.
A car which belonged to the Police Family and Child Protection Department was set on fire on the 17th of February, around 3:30 am.
Daud said that the car was set on fire after placing a bottle of kerosene on top of the car and that MNDF fire service attended the scene within 10 minutes of the incident and had put out the fire.
The car sustained large damages, including to its cover and windscreen.
Daud said that CCTV footage from cameras near the area show both people in action at the scene, and that the police have already collected enough evidence to prosecute them, and that they are now in the process of collecting additional evidence.
Police said that they are currently doing forensic laboratory tests on the additional evidence collected.
