Session held for JDS fellows returning from Japan

A reporting session was held for graduates of the Project for Human Resources Development Scholarship (JDS), a program funded by the Japanese government.  

Five students from the 3rd and 4th batches, who recently completed their master’s programs in Japan, presented their research findings and shared experiences of academic life abroad.  

The session was attended by members of the JDS Operating Committee, including Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Hameed, State Minister for Higher Education Dr. Abdul Raheem Hasan, Civil Service Commission Member Dr. Dheeba Moosa, and JICA Maldives Office Resident Representative Taki Motoo.  

Applications for the next intake of JDS scholarships remain open until December 1, at 16:00.  

The scholarship is available to permanent staff of the civil service, independent institutions, courts, and related agencies, including the legislature. It offers fully funded postgraduate opportunities at leading Japanese universities, covering tuition, travel, accommodation, and living expenses.  

This year, six slots are available across three programs:  

• International University of Japan (IUJ): Master of Arts in Economics / Master of Arts in International Development  

• Ritsumeikan University: Master of Arts in International Relations  

• Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU): Master of Science in International Cooperation Policy  

The JDS program aims to strengthen human resource capacity within government institutions, enabling professionals to contribute more effectively to the Maldives’ socio-economic development.
