A mother-son duo is scheduled to hold an art exhibition under the title, Aqua Dreams.

Speaking with Sun, Aishath Shamla said the exhibition will feature art pieces painted by herself and her son, Yoonus Mohamed Amir, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibition will also feature some handiwork by mother-son duo, she added.

Shamla detailed that the duo took up art during the COVID-19 pandemic to relax their minds, adding that the exhibition will feature some 20 art pieces.

According to Shamla, the art exhibition was named ‘Aqua Dreams’ to reflect her son’s love for the sea and her own dreams.

“My son Yoonus really loves the sea. He gave that name. Then I told him, I have a lot of dreams and that needs to be included in the name. That is how ‘Aqua Dreams’ came about,” she explained.

Despite its ocean-inspired name, the exhibition will include artworks tied to the Maldives’ history and cultural heritage. The mother-son duo has decided to put all art pieces up for sale. They include large artworks in demand by resorts.

Aqua Dreams exhibition will be officially inaugurated at the National Art Gallery on Thursday at 16:00, and will be open to the public from Friday until November 30.
