The foreigner who went missing after a cargo vessel ran aground near K. Kaashidhoo has been found dead, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The vessel, Faisala, was reported to have run aground at 19:52 hours on Sunday while traveling from Male' to Kaashidhoo. The incident left one person missing, while 10 others were rescued by the Maldives Police Service and Coast Guard.
Police said the missing man was found at the location where the vessel had first run aground on Kaashidhoo reef.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kaashidhoo Health Centre.
The deceased was identified as MD Alamgir, 30, of Bangladesh.
Police said from the 11 men aboard the vessel, five were Maldivians and six were foreigners.
Authorities have urged all sea-farers to remain vigilant, as the ship’s cargo is still floating.
