Maldives wins global culinary award for Heritage Cuisine

The Maldives has been named the World’s Best Destination for Heritage Cuisine at the World Culinary Awards 2025, triumphing over nominees including Germany, Peru, Seychelles, and Singapore.

According to Visit Maldives, the country also secured several regional titles in the Indian Ocean category:

  • Best Culinary Destination

  • Best Culinary City Destination – awarded to Male' City

  • Best Culinary Training Institution – Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Maldives National University

  • Best Landmark Restaurant – Symphony Restaurant

  • Best Hotel Restaurant – Hadaba at SO/ Maldives

  • Best Culinary Experience – H2O Restaurant

Visit Maldives CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree said the awards reflect the country’s growing reputation for culinary excellence. “We are proud to introduce Maldivian chefs, restaurateurs and local food to the world,” he said.

Shiuree added that the recognition highlights the Maldives’ ability to blend innovative thinking with culinary heritage, bringing local flavors to world-class dining experiences.

The World Culinary Awards are part of the World Travel Awards portfolio and aim to celebrate and reward excellence in the global culinary industry.
