The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced on Sunday, that it too, has commences inspections to identify and penalize sublease of social housing units under its management in Hulhumale’.
In a statement on Sunday morning, the HDC stressed that social housing initiatives are initiated by the government to provide affordable housing to those who lack it.
The corporation stressed that sublease of such flats is prohibited under the contracts signed between HDC and flat recipients.
The HDC said that such violations will be penalized according to the terms of the lease agreement.
The flats managed by HDC includes the social housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase I and the Hiyaa towers in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
The corporation has announced that it has commenced inspections to identity any units that may have been subleased.
The inspections by HDC follows recent posts advertising the sublease of flats under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme in Hulhumale’ Phase II – despite the handover process remaining in progress. This prompted the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) to issue a warning that units that are subleased will be confiscated.
