Three arrested for bringing in large amounts of drugs

The police have arrested a group of people that brought in large amounts of drugs into the Maldives.

The police said that the people, arrested following a special operation by the Police Drug Enforcement Department, were aged 26, 27 and 29.

The police said that the three arrests were made on Wednesday, during an operation conducted in Male’ based on information received by the police that a person who arrived on a flight to Male’ had been carrying large amounts of drugs.

The police said that the 26 year old person was arrested first as he got off the ferry from Hulhule’ to Male’; and that the 27 and 29 year old people were arrested under suspicion of receiving and trading the drugs that were brought in.

The police have seized 21 bullets containing a substance suspected to be drugs carried internally by the 26 year old.

The police said that in addition to this case, Customs handed over a man to the police on 16 February after the man was suspected of carrying drugs internally. The police discovered that he had been carrying 99 bullets of a substance suspected to be drugs, internally. Two 28 year old Maldivians were arrested in relation to this case after an operation conducted by the Drug Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department.
