The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that a new draw will be held on Wednesday for applicants who scored above 73 points under the previous administration’s Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme but did not participate in the earlier draw.
This decision follows a discrepancy in the previous selection process, where 301 applicants who scored above 76 points were excluded from the draw, while 315 applicants with 75 points were included and allocated flats.
In response, the ministry has decided to conduct a re-draw specifically for those who scored 76 points and were previously left out.
According to an announcement issued on Tuesday, the upcoming draw will include individuals who qualified for flats but did not participate in the draw held on November 16, 2023. This includes:
The draw will take place at the Ministry of Housing at 15:00 on Wednesday, and will be conducted by ministry staff. The results, including flat numbers and assigned recipients, will be published via the Gedhoruveriyaa portal, the ministry confirmed.
The original list of 4,000 flat recipients was released by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration on November 4, 2023, just ahead of the end of its term. Following widespread complaints, a revised and permanent list was issued on November 15.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) subsequently halted the handover process, citing concerns that the list had been manipulated to favor specific groups.
In February 2024, the current administration’s Housing Ministry announced that only 1,820 individuals were actually eligible for the 4,000 flats, and that 53 percent of the scores awarded in the previous list were deemed invalid. Although a new list was issued, the government later stated that flats would be allocated based on the previous administration’s list.
