Developing the skilled and capable youth the country needs is more important than constructing a fifty-storey building, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Wednesday.
The President made the remarks at a special ceremony held at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Composite Training Centre (CTC) in Maafilaafushi, Lhaviyani atoll, where the Maldives National Service was officially launched.
Speaking at the event, President Muizzu said true national development hinges on building a strong younger generation.
He stressed that nurturing patriotic, honourable, and capable youth who uphold Islamic values and national identity is far more valuable than erecting a towering structure.
He encouraged participants to view the training as a chance to shape their future and grow personally.
By the end of the program, participants would emerge with discipline, a deeper sense of national identity, and a stronger commitment to Islam, he said.
To mark the occasion, the President formally handed over the Flag of the Maldives National Service.
The Maldives National Service was established to foster citizens who are rooted in national identity, demonstrate responsibility, and are physically fit, spiritually grounded, and mentally resilient.
The program includes instruction in national identity, responsible citizenship, education, leadership, and language proficiency, alongside physical training, fitness, and discipline. Participants also receive training in first aid, firefighting, and self-defence.
The first batch of recruits departed for Maafilaafushi on September 17. The initial training is a three-month program.
