Motorized vessel ban at channel linking two Hulhumale’ phases comes into effect

Motorized vessels have been banned at the channel linking Hulhumale’ Phase I and Phase II, a popular swimming spot, effective from Friday.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC), on Friday, said motorized vessels will be banned at the channel effective from today.

The Corporation announced its plans to ban motorized vehicles at the channel on Monday.

In this regard, HDC noted that the location is a popular swimming and recreation spot for a large number of children and adults.

The Corporation also unveiled plans to conduct a coral planting program in the area.

As such, the Corporation said the ban is being imposed for the safety of the people who go swimming in the area, as well as to prevent any hindrance to the coral planting program.

The channel between Hulhumale’ Phase I and Phase II is also used for watersports activities, including jet skis and banana boat rides.

Notably, HDC is currently undertaking efforts to plant trees in the area.

The channel connecting both phases of Hulhumale’ is 50 meters wide and 1.85 meters deep.
