The Maldivian National Football Team made a proud return to the Maldives on Wednesday, celebrating their victory in the South Asian Super Cup 2025.
The team was greeted with a festive reception, complete with a Boduberu performance, at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Following the airport reception, a larger celebratory event is scheduled to take place at the National Stadium. The Ministry of Sports has issued an invitation to the public, encouraging as many supporters as possible to attend the stadium dressed in red, as a vibrant display of solidarity with the national team.
Adding to the excitement, the public will have the exclusive opportunity to take photos with the coveted Super Cup trophy and the national team players, allowing for a memorable interaction with the sporting heroes.
Both the Ministry of Sports and the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) are actively encouraging widespread attendance at the stadium to extend a warm welcome to the victorious national football team.
This South Asian Super Cup championship marks a significant milestone for Maldivian football, as it represents the first international football trophy secured by the Maldives in seven years.
The South Asian Super Cup, initially slated to feature four participating nations, ultimately saw a final showdown between only Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The last time Maldives clinched an international trophy was in 2018, when they emerged victorious in the SAFF Championship held in India.
