Duo detained from Male’ with over MVR 41,500 in suspected drug money

Three people were arrested from a home in Male’ City on Tuesday with narcotics and over MVR 41,500 in suspected drug money, two of whom remain in police custody, while the third was granted conditional release.

According to a statement released by the police on Thursday, the three people were arrested in a joint operation by the Counter-Narcotics Operation and Drug Enforcement, in a case involving the suspected use, possession and peddling of narcotics.

The duo who remains in custody are from the Maradhoo district of Addu City, and share the same address. They are:

  • Ahnaf Ashraf, 27, Narugismaage, S. Maradhoo
  • Abdul Ghani Abdul Majeed, 56, Narugismaage, S. Maradhoo

According to the police, they were arrested in a raid on a home in the Maafannu district of Male’ on Tuesday.

During the search of the residence, the police confiscated 304.73 grams of suspected narcotics and over MVR 41,500 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs.

They were presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Wednesday. According to the police, one of the suspects, who wasn’t named, was granted conditional release by the court, while the other two – Ahnaf and Abdul Ghani – were both remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.

The case remains under investigation by the police.
