Criminal charges against murdered Moosa Ibrahim dropped

The state has officially withdrawn all criminal charges against Moosa Ibrahim, 29, of Nalahiya/L.Maavah, following his murder. Ibrahim was fatally stabbed on July 28 last year.

Mohamed Ibrahim, 29, of Asaree Manzil, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, has been apprehended and has pleaded guilty to the murder of Moosa Ibrahim.

Sources indicate that at the time of his death, Moosa Ibrahim was facing three cases filed by the prosecution in the Maavah court: two counts of assault and one count of intimidation. The assault charges stemmed from incidents in 2020 and 2021 in Maavah, while the intimidation charge related to a 2020 incident involving threats to kill.

Trials for all three cases had commenced prior to Moosa Ibrahim's death. However, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, these cases have now been withdrawn.

Moosa Ibrahim's body was transported to India on the 7th of this month for an autopsy.

Both Moosa Ibrahim and the accused, Mohamed Ibrahim, also reportedly have records of drug offenses.

According to sources in Maavah, the altercation that led to Moosa Ibrahim's murder began days earlier, reportedly over Mohamed Ibrahim's failure to pay for drugs purchased from Moosa Ibrahim.

Islanders reported that after the fatal altercation, Mohamed Ibrahim fled to a beach near the island's football stadium, where he disposed of a knife and washed himself before surrendering to the police.

Police confirmed that Mohamed Ibrahim also has a criminal record. He had reportedly relocated to Maavah due to a relationship with a woman from the island.
