The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to allow judges to welcome President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visits to the islands. This was confirmed by a reliable source to Sun.

The President has recently been on a series of trips to meet the people of the atolls, during which he has met with all authorities, including magistrate courts. The JSC held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the matter and determined that it is appropriate for judges and court employees to welcome the President.

However, the JSC also stipulates that judges must observe their rules of conduct when meeting the President. While this is permitted, judges are prohibited by law and regulations from participating in political activities.

Meanwhile, there have been criticisms that the government is influencing the judiciary. One of President Dr. Muizzu's biggest promises was to prevent influence in the judiciary, stating on the day of his swearing-in that such influence had ended at that moment.

Despite this, the government has been criticized for suddenly suspending three Supreme Court judges while a constitutional amendment that would deprive MPs of their seats was being considered. The judges who were suspended at the time made serious allegations that the government was influencing the judiciary. President Muizzu continues to deny such allegations.
