Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded HDh. Naivaadhoo land reclamation and shore protection project.
The agreement pertaining to the project was signed during a ceremony held at Naivaadhoo School on Monday as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, while Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed the agreement on behalf of MTCC.
According to MTCC, the project involves reclaiming seven hectares of land and constructing a 619-meter rock boulder revetment and a 45-meter rock boulder groyne. The project, valued at MVR 82.64 million, was contracted to be completed within 300 days.
Speaking during a meeting with Naivaadhoo residents, President Muizzu underscored land reclamation and shore protection works as the most significant pledge he had made to the island. He added that the project awarded to MTCC will see additional land being created on the island, which can be used for crucial projects such as housing.
"Surely, this will also pave the way for significant easements and achieving successes in the development of the island's economy," he added.
Speaking further, President Muizzu revealed plans to commence a football stadium development on the island. He noted that the construction of a new building for the Naavaidhoo Health Centre, along with efforts to increase its resources, is scheduled to commence next year. Prior to this, the President said the issue regarding the island’s ambulance would be addressed.
The President said efforts are also underway to complete the Naavaidhoo School’s hall at the earliest.
