President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Sunday, has inaugurated Onuhiya, a park developed for senior citizens in HA. Utheemu.

The park was inaugurated as part of President Muizzu’s trip to Utheemu to attend National Day festivities.

Following the inauguration, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohaned planted teak (haivakaru) trees in the park in memory of Boduthakurufaanu.

The foundation stone for Boduthakurufaanu Gate was also laid on Sunday as part of National Day festivities in Utheemu, marking the commencement of physical works on the Ghazee Bandaarain Heritage Revival Project.

This event was officiated by Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim.

The Boduthakurufaanu Gate was designed to represent the six heroes of Kalhuohfummi, the revival of Islam, and the rich cultural heritage and independence of the Maldivian people. Its six pillars, inspired by the architecture of traditional Maldivian mosques, symbolize the six national heroes who fought for the country’s freedom. At night, six lights will illuminate the gate, serving as a lasting tribute to their service to the nation.

The event was also graced by the first couple, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and other senior government officials.
