The Indian High Commission has said that India wants to find a peaceful solution to the issue for former President Mohamed Nasheed having taken refuge in the Indian High Commission, and that discussions in this regard between the two countries will continue.
First Secretary Political Affairs of the Indian High Commission Karthigeyan said that the discussions held today between officials of Foreign Ministry and Joint Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Indian Special Envoy who is presently visiting Maldives, ended without much headway.
He said that discussions will nonetheless continue, and that India wants to assist Maldives find a peaceful solution to the problem.
Nasheed sought refuge in the Indian High Commission a week ago following police efforts to implement an order by Hulhumale’ Court to arrest him to bring him before court. He has stayed in the High Commission since then.
