President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Mohamed Nasih, president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) whom the incumbent administration had failed to remove through a no-confidence motion, for a second term at the Commission as the first choice.
The tenure of three incumbent CSC members – Nasih, Mohamed Farshath and Fathimath Sharef – is set to expire on September 8th.
President Muizzu, on Sunday, sent the names of six individuals as his nominees for CSC membership from the applicants who applied to the post.
Nasih topped the list. The remaining nominees, by the President’s preference, are as follows:
The names have been sent for review to the Independent Institutions Committee.
Nasih, who currently serves as CSC’s president, attained his master's degree in engineering at the University of Liverpool in UK. He has over 28 years of experience in telecommunications and broadcasting, having served as Secretary General and Director General of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, as well as Director General of the Communications Authority of Maldives.
Notably, a no-confidence motion was initiated against Nasih last November after accusing him of attempting to gain undue personal benefits. While the Independent Institution Committee voted to dismiss him, he was saved by a floor vote.
