Abdulla Mahil Shaheem, son of interim Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has tendered his resignation from the President’s Youth Advisory Board.

Mahil, who was appointed to the board last August, submitted his resignation letter to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday. In his letter, he expressed his intention to serve the nation after completing his education, without providing further details regarding his departure.

This resignation follows a recent incident where vape equipment, banned from import and use in the Maldives, was discovered in Mahil’s luggage upon his arrival from Malaysia on Thursday, leading to a fine.

Mahil's resignation marks the second high-profile departure from the board, which counsels the President on youth affairs.

Previously, Dawood Ahmed, then president of the Youth Advisory Board, also resigned amidst allegations of his involvement in a group of youths reportedly partying with drugs in the capital.

Dawood, who had served as an undersecretary in the President's Office, was later accused of providing false statements during the investigation into the case of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who fell on the roof of H. Mitaz on April 18th. Consequently, President Muizzu dismissed Dawood, who was under paid suspension at the time.
