Kazakh champions Zhaiyk VC moved to the top of the table in the ongoing CAVA Men’s Champions League on Saturday, as they defeated Maldives’ Club HDC in three straight sets.
The CAVA Men’s Champions League – the biggest men’s club volleyball competition in central Asia – is taking place at the Social Center Male’ from July 17-23.
On late Saturday afternoon, Zhaiyk defeated HDC in three straight sets of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-13.
It marks Zhaiyk’s third straight win in the tournament, having defeated Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) in earlier matches.
And for HDC, the latest defeat magnifies their precarious position, as they have left pointless in all three matches played so far.
Zhaiyk is currently on top of the table with 9 points, with Kyrgyzstani champions a close second with 8 points. Nepalese champions Help Nepal (HNSC) is ranked third with 6 points, Maldives’ champions DSC is ranked fourth with 1 point, while SLPA and HDC remain at the bottom with zero points.
Saturday’s last match will see SLPA and DSC face each other in a crucial match for both as they look for their first win of the tournament.
The tournament’s matches are being aired live by SSTV.
