MDP govt’s state minister Zuhair appointed Transportation Safety Board’s director

Ahmed Zuhair, who served as a State Minister for Transport during the last MDP administration, has been appointed a director at Maldives Transportation Safety Board (MTSB).

Zuhair, from Addu City’s Hithadhoo, is highly experienced in the field of aviation. In this regard, Zahair since the era of Air Maldives, Maldives’ first national airline and flag carrier. During former president Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, he had served as a board member and managing director of Island Aviation Service Limited (IASL).

Zuhair is also engaged in wide-scale private businesses in the field of aviation.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu established Maldives Transportation Safety Board (MTSB) back in April.

According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu established the Transportation Safety Board because he believes it crucial for there to be a separate institution improve transport safety and investigate land, sea and aviation incidents and accidents.

The main mandate of the board is:

  • To investigate and identify the cause of land, sea and aviation incidents and accidents in the Maldives.
  • To provide counsel and technical support to relevant authorities to improve transport safety regulations and standards based on findings of its investigations.
  • To provide counsel and technical support to relevant authorities to make changes to the land, sea and aviation transport system to improve safety.
  • To research safety issues in land, sea and aviation transport and identify trends.
  • To arrange public hearings in response to land, sea and aviation incidents and accidents.
  • Release information and publish reports on land, sea and aviation incidents and accidents.
