Search for missing person ongoing after speedboat accident

A search operation has commenced to look for a person who fell overboard from a speedboat today after an accident this morning where the boat collided with an oil barge. The speedboat was travelling from Reethi Rah Resort to Male’.

Police Media Official Hassan Haneef said today that they were informed that speedboat was carrying 9 people at the time of the collision, and that the resort and the captain of the boat have both informed them that one person has been missing. Haneef said that they have commenced efforts to look for the missing person and that he will soon share details of the person with the press.

The speedboat collided with the oil barge while carrying staff from the resort to Male’. Two people involved in the accident were taken to ADK Hospital for suffering serious injuries.
