Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigations into the matter of extension of the lease of Maamiligili Airport to Villa Shipping and Trading for a period of 99 years.
President of ACC Hassan Luthufee said today that the commission has initiated an investigation to clarify if there were any corrupt dealings involved in the extension of lease for Maamigili Airport, to a company owned by Jumhoory Party Leader Gasim Ibrahim.
“This Commission has started looking into the matter of the extension of the management period of Maamigili Airport for a duration of 99 years, because the news has been circulating in the media,” said Hassan Luthfee.
He said that they have now collected the documentation of the extension of lease.
Attorney General Azima Shakoor has said that the former Transport Minister Dr. Ahmed Shameed had not sought her consultation regarding the extended the lease period.
Gasim Ibrahim, also the chairman of Villa, has said that there were no acts of corruption in the dealings regarding the case.
