Ihusan: Prison officers are hardworking with rarely any disciplinary issues

Home Minister Ali Ihusan states prison officers are hardworking individuals with huge responsibilities, adding that rarely have any disciplinary issues involving prison officers come to light.

He made the remark while speaking at the graduation ceremony of correctional officer training program as the chief guest.

Speaking to the newly sworn-in prison officers, Minister Ali Ihusan said that the functioning of Maldives Correctional Service has been improved through dedication and hard work of many officers. He noted that, despite challenges in recruiting a sufficient number of personnel, existing officers continue to spend extended hours on duty to ensure their responsibilities are fulfilled.

The Minister commended prison officers' hard work in prisons, adding Maldivian prisons are of relatively high quality compared to those in some foreign countries.

He added that disciplinary issues involving prison officers, if any, have only surfaced rarely.

The graduation ceremony was also attended by Commissioner of Prison Hassan Zareer, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ibrahim Mohamed Didi and directors, commissioner officers and senior staff at prisons.

The oath was administered to graduates by Maafushi Magistrate Court Judge Jinaan Ibrahm Latheef.

Commissioner of Prisons Zareer congratulated the graduates, adding Corrections was in need of educated officers.

In this regard, he underscored that prison officers work tirelessly at prisons in service of the nation’s best interests. He appealed to the graduates to uphold honesty and integrity when fulfilling their responsibilities.
