Team ‘Fulhangi’ became the champions of the ‘Honey Bunny Masrace 1446’ held in B. Dharavandhoo on Sunday, after catching 34 kilos of fish.
The ‘Honey Bunny Masrace 1446’ was organized by the Dharavandhoo Council in collaboration with local restaurant Honey Bunny, as is part of Dharavandhoo’s ‘Magey Eid 1446’ festivities to celebrate Eid al-Adha.
Team ‘Fulhangi’ took home MVR 15,000 in prize money after catching 34 kilos of fish, which earned them 349.5 points.
The runner-up ‘Chill Bros Rods’ won an MVR 8,000 cash prize after scoring 348.85 points, while second runner-up ‘Savadhee’ won MVR 5,000 with 326.2 points.
‘Chill Bros Rods’ also won an additional MVR 2,000 cash prize for catching the biggest fish.
At the award ceremony, Dharavandhoo Council’s president Ali Sameeh announced plans to increase the prize pool for the tournament from MVR 30,000 to MVR 50,000 next year.
“Honey Bunny has pledged to sponsor next year’s tournament as well. Next year’s tournament will have a prize pool of MVR 50,000. We are pleased to announce that next year’s tournament will be open to teams across the country,” he said.
According to the local council, the fishing tournament is aimed at fostering friendship and promoting fishing among visitors to Dharavandhoo
