Housing Ministry is conducting the new draw for land recipients from Gulhifalhu under the former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme following revisions to the island’s land use plan.

The draw began at 14:30pm on Friday afternoon at Usfasgandu.

The draw is being conducted by Housing Ministry staff.

The recipients of land plots are updated in real time via ‘Gedhoruveriya’ portal and SMS notifications as the draw proceeds.

They can also participate in the draw in person. If the recipient cannot attend, they may appoint a proxy to represent them, who will be required to present a no-objection letter from the landowner and a copy of their national ID card.

The revised Gulhifalhu land use plan, published on May 15th, had been scrutinized as it added 90 additional land plots.

Speaking during SSTV’s ‘Baaru Hathareh’ program, lawyer Shaheem Mohamed alleged that the 90 additional land plots were added through corruption.

The government brought major changes to the Gulhifalhu land use plan in order to expedite the issuance of land plots from the island.

The reclamation of Gulhifalhu began during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. The reclamation of 150 hectares of land from Gulhifalhu was completed during the current administration, back in April. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to reclaim an additional 85 hectares of land.
