The Ministry of Finance has reported that the government had received just 3.6 percent of the total budgeted grant for the year in the first five months of 2025.
The government has projected a total of MVR 2.6 billion in foreign grants for the year.
Statistics from the ministry showed that the government has collected just MVR 94 million in the first five months of the current fiscal year, whereas in the same period last year, the state had received MVR 143.7 million in grants.
The Maldives government is still required to collect MVR 2.5 billion this year.
So far this year, the state has received a cumulative revenue of MVR 14.9 billion inclusive of foreign grants, out of which 77.8 percent revenue came from tax sources. As of last week, the government earned MVR 11.6 billion from tax sources, which is an increment of MVR 151.3 million compared to the same period last year.
Statistics also showed that the cumulative expenditure of the state stood at MVR 13.7 billion by the review date, which is a 17.9 percent decline from the same period in the previous year. While recurrent expenditure declined by 3.8 percent, recurrent expenditure dropped by 64.2 percent.
