SOEs contracted to develop hospitals in three islands up to tertiary standards

Agreements have been signed on Wednesday for the development of Dr. Abdul Samadh Memorial Hospital in GDh. Thinadhoo, R. Ungoofaru Regional Hospital and Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital in Lh. Naifaru, up to tertiary standard.

The agreements were signed during a ceremony held at the Health Ministry.

The development of Dr. Abdulla Samad Memorial Hospital and Ungoofaru Hospital was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The development of Naifaru Hospital was contracted to Road Development Corporation (RDC).

MTCC shared the details of the projects contracted to the company.

In this regard, the development of Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital was awarded to the company for MVR 147.3 million to be completed within 540 days. The project involves expanding the hospital by 87,455 square feet, and once finished, it will increase the hospital's capacity to 102 beds.

Meanwhile, the development of Ungoofaaru Hospital was awarded to the company for MVR 161.24 million to be completed within 540 days.

The project involves expanding the hospital by 95,645 square feet, and once finished, it will increase the hospital's capacity to 102 beds.

Notably, a Chinese company, China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) was contracted to develop Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital up to tertiary standards during the former administration.

CNEEC was contracted to develop the hospital up to tertiary standards on August 29th. The project, valued at USD 76 million, involved increasing the capacity of the hospital to 100 beds. 

The project was to be financed via a loan from Kuwait Fund. Although the agreement required the project to be completed within 30 months, there was no progress on it.
