President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged his cabinet to complete projects within the specified timelines and emphasized on providing updates about these initiatives to the public.

The cabinet held a working session to review the government’s top-priority infrastructure projects on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The session took place at the President’s Office.

The working session was comprised of cabinet ministers and managing directors of several state-owned enterprises (SOEs), which included State Trading Organization (STO), Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO), Fenaka Corporation, Road Development Corporation (RDC), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), and Male’ Water and Sewerage Company Pvt Ltd (MWSC).

During the session, the cabinet ministers and managing directors of SOEs briefed President Muizzu on their assigned projects and shared updates on their progress.

Muizzu emphasized the importance of meeting project deadlines, and addressed the concerns raised by the ministers and SOE managing directors.

Besides this, they also discussed strategies to ensure the smooth implementation of projects.

President Muizzu encouraged his administration to provide project updates to the public and ensure completion of said projects in a timely and transparent manner.

The current administration is criticized because of the muddied progress of infrastructure projects. All infrastructure projects had paused last year, which the government attributed to lack of allocations at the 19th parliament assembly for the 2024 state budget.

The government assured all interrupted projects will resume this year on the basis of the 2025 state budget approved by the 20th parliament assembly which is controlled by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC). The current administration earlier said it would give special priority to social housing projects.

The statistics for the past 10 months shared by the Ministry of Finance last Wednesday also indicated these projects remain in limbo still.
