Youth injured in Male' City cafe' assault

A local youth has been injured following an altercation inside a Male' City cafe' which had involved an attack using a sharp object.

Maldives Police Service confirmed the incident to Sun Online and said the incident took place at a Maafannu district cafe' around 15:38hrs on Monday, April 21, 2025.

A 22-year-old local man was injured in the attack who had been taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.

Though Sun Online attempted to get a comment about this from the hospital, it had been unsuccessful.

Police further revealed they were investigating the case.

Cases of assault and battery have risen in Greater Male' area recently while many of these incidents involve expatriates.

Earlier on Wednesday last week, four individuals that included a minor were arrested for attacking a Bangladeshi national who sustained injuries to their eyebrow.
