Quran memorization programs to launch in 9 islands in May

A mega project to teach people to recite the Holy Quran by heart will launch in the atolls in May, says Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

In a press statement on Thursday morning, Shaheem said the project is aimed at starting Quran memorization classes in islands with Islamic centers, islands whether Islamic centers are being built, and islands with large populations.

He said that the project will launch in nine islands in May. They are:

  • Kulhudhuffushi City
  • Thinadhoo City
  • Hithadhoo, Addu City
  • HA. Dhidhdhoo
  • B. Eydhafushi
  • Dh. Kudahuvadhoo
  • AA. Feridhoo
  • R. Ungoofaaru
  • L. Gan

Shaheem said that the Islamic Ministry also plans on launching Quran classes and Qari courses in islands that are currently facing challenges in continuing such classes by appointing teachers.

As such, the Quran Center will be appointing teachers in May to branches in eight islands. They are:

  • R. Maduvvari
  • N. Velidhoo
  • Th. Kinbidhoo
  • Th. Guraidhoo
  • GDh. Gadhdhoo
  • L. Isdhoo
  • HA. Utheemu
  • Dh. Meedhoo

Shaheem added that a coordinator and administrative staff will be appointed to the center in Fuvahmulah City.

The project is being launched to fulfil a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

On Wednesday, the Islamic Ministry opened applications for individuals who wish to join the third batch of a program to train young khatibs – a program that aims to create a new generation of khatibs.
