Three people arrested from Dhangethi in relation to the rape of Indian teacher

People in Alif Dhaalu Dhangethi have told Sun that three people have been arrested from the island in relation to the rape of an Indian teacher.

The people told Sun that the three people arrested were above 18 years of age and that two of the people arrested were known drug addicts.

The police have not confirmed any arrests in Dhangethi, although they have said that there has been progress in investigating the matter.

Indian news agency The Times of India reported that officials from the Indian High Commission in Maldives met with the acting Minister of Gender Mariyam Shakeela, asking that justice be sought for the victim.

A person from Dhangethi who spoke to Sun said that the Indian woman was working in the island to teach computer classes organized by a group called CITM, and that some people had gone into her house, which was located a well-populated area, and that the people with whom she shared the house were not home at the time when she was raped.

The man also said that in addition to raping her, the people had stolen the woman’s money and computer.

He added that robberies had become common in the island during the past two to three days, and that the police have been powerless to stop them.
