President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states 111,808 tuna cases, gifted by the government as Ramadan gift, have been collected so far.

He made the remark during the first episode of ‘Rayythunnaa Eku’, a podcast hosted by the President’s Office on Thursday, featuring the President.

Speaking during the program, the President underscored that the government places significant importance on Ramadan as Maldives is a hundred percent Muslim nation. As such, he said tuna cases were gifted to households this year as they are highly in demand during Ramadan.

In this regard, he detailed that the government decided to gift a 48-can tuna case to each household, adding its distribution was carried out very efficiently.

“A total of 111,808 cases have been collected by households so far. They include 61,909 households from atolls and 49,899 households from Male’. While arrangements have been made for those who have not collected so far, to come and collect, almost everyone has collected as of present,” he said.

President Muizzu announced the decision to distribute tuna cases to Maldivian citizens as a Ramadan gift in November last year – during a ceremony held to mark his administration’s one-year anniversary.

In Ramadan last year, the government provided discounts on utility bills and distributed 1.6 million kilos of food staples to 82,000 households.

President Muizzu has announced discounts on utilities this year as well.
