The agreement pertaining to the project was signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage on Tuesday. The agreement was signed by Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim on behalf of the government and Managing Director Brigadier General Ali Zuhair on behalf of RDC.
According to the Ministry, the project will be implemented in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy on generating revenue from heritage by diversifying tourism while preserving the national identity.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Naseer underscored that the Ministry’s Strategic Action Plan attached significant importance to instilling the spirit of developing heritage sites across all islands.
Notably, the Ministry executed an agreement with RDC on March 10th for renovations and development of Kalaafaanu Ziyaaraii in Adh. Hanga’meedhoo.
According to the Minister, these projects will be highly unique and unlike any other that has been implemented in the Maldives.
In this regard, he detailed the project will include components pertaining to the economy, restoration, modern technology, and reintegration of heritage to Maldivian lives.
The concept design of the project is presently underway.
A team from the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Economic Development visited Utheemu, Thakandhoo, and Baarah in Haa Alifu Atoll from February 25th to February 28th. The visit was aimed at gathering the necessary information to begin physical work on these projects and to consult with the councils and residents of the islands.
