President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has warned the people to be cautious of the foreign parties trying to find space for religions other than Islam in the Maldives.
President made this statement during his message to the people on the occasion of the day Maldives adhered to Islam. In his message, he said that while Islam is the holiest of religions, we should try to increase love for our religion and try to be steadfast in holding on to our beliefs.
“I am saddened by the fact that our unity is seeing a decline. The establishment of political parties, especially if it is effecting our family relationships and the priorities of the nation, we have to deeply think about this,” said the president in his message to the people.
The President noted that the true reason Maldives has remained an independent and sovereign state was because it embraced Islam, and that the long existing brotherly relations among the people symbolize the true essence of Islam.
The President also adviced the people to strengthen family and brotherly ties, and to for everybody to work together in a spirit of unity. He also called to prioritize nationalism over political ideology.
