The President’s Office, on Wednesday, has opened applications for Civil Service Commission Maldives (CSC) membership following the resignation of the Commission’s Vice President Ibrahim Rasheed on Tuesday.

Rasheed resigned on Tuesday in the face of a no-confidence motion against him at the Parliament.

The President’s Office said applications for CSC membership will be open until 13:00pm on March 19th. The Office will be accepting applications on working days from 9:30am to 13:00pm until the deadline.

The application form can be downloaded from the President’s Office’s website.

Rasheed confirmed his resignation to Sun on Tuesday afternoon, but said he did not have a “specific reason” for his decision.

The resignation comes a day after the Independent Institutions Committee passed a no-confidence motion against Rasheed, and forwarded it to the Parliament floor for a final vote.

The grounds for the no-confidence motion against Rasheed are unclear, as the committee meeting on Monday was held with the mics switched off.

Rasheed, who joined the civil service in 2000, was appointed as the vice president of the CSC in 2020.

No-confidence motions against a number of commissioners, including CSC’s president Mohamed Nasih, were submitted to the Parliament on November 11th. However, the Committee decided against the dismissal of Nasih.
